Green Bay Packers receivers coach Luke Getsy has accumulated a good deal of training tools over his nine years coaching in the pros and college, and he plans to use them all this year in training camp.
Getsy was recently appointed full-time receivers coach for 2016 after serving as offensive quality control coach since 2014.
“It’s just eye-hand coordination, training each eye,” Getsy said Friday of one particular tool he’s using – catching a tennis ball while covering up one eye. “That’s all. We’re all eye dominant, and you’re just training the dominant eye and you’re training the less-dominant eye.”
“I’m young in my career so hopefully a lot more, but I don’t know if you can get much more creative than what I’ve been doing… We’ll keep trying. The road that I’ve taken you get different ideas from different people and talk to the guys and say, ‘Hey, how can we make a drill better?’ Some of the stuff those guys have come up with, too. It’s not just me. Those guys are creative, too.”
“I think they see them as something that could help them. I don’t know if they enjoy them or not enjoy them, but they’re definitely willing to do them and they’re attacking them and I think they feel it can help them,” he added.
