Although it appeared that Denver Broncos quarterback Mark Sanchez was coming to terms that losing two fumbles in Saturday’s preseason action against the 49ers would take him out of contention for the team’s starting job, that’s apparently not the case.
After the game, Sanchez lamented playing like crap and “ruining an opportunity,” which sounds pretty much like the above sentence, but he insists he was talking about the game, not his status on the team.
“I squandered an opportunity that game,” Sanchez said. “It wasn’t like, ‘OK, that’s it, throw in the towel.’ I think a lot of people interpreted it that way, but that’s never been my attitude. I don’t quit. I’ll take this thing down to the wire if that’s what it takes, and that’s what it looks like, so let’s go.”
It’s nice to know Sanchez hasn’t lost hope, but the Broncos may have. Trevor Siemian will start the all important 3rd preseason game, and there’s talk that rookie Paxton Lynch has moved ahead as the No. 2.
