Kansas City Chiefs safety Eric Berry still hasn’t signed his $10.806 million franchise tender, which technically means he’s not a part of any team right now.
But Chiefs head coach Andy Reid doesn’t seem to be worried as we fast approach Week 1 of the 2016 NFL Season.
“Eric’s one of our good players and he’s in the business side of it right now,” Reid told PFT Live Thursday. “This is all part of the profession, so I get it. But I also know when he comes in he’s going to be in great shape, he’ll be able to get himself back before the first game and be ready to go because that’s the way he trains in the offseason and the kind of shape he keeps himself in.”
Michael David Smith, PFT: ‘If Berry doesn’t sign his $10.806 million franchise tender in time to play in Week One, he’ll lose $635,647 a week during the regular season. It seems unlikely Berry would leave that kind of money on the table, so it seems like a fair bet that Berry will be back in the fold within the next couple weeks. And Reid thinks he’ll be ready to play.’
