Patriots’ Brissett has thumb sprain, not a tear – injury ‘not deemed to be a serious one’

Some sort of good news out of Pats Nation as third string QB Jacoby Brissett has only a sprained thumb and not a tear as previously reported.

Brissett was thrust into active duty when primary backup Jimmy Garoppolo suffered a shoulder injury in the second half against Miami in Week 2.

The rookie since has acquitted himself nicely, setting up an opportunity to go 4-0 without the suspended Tom Brady (who returns in Week 5 at Cleveland).

The Patriots are currently weighing their options for next Sunday’s matchup with the Bills in Foxborough, and have determined Brissett’s injury is “not deemed to be a serious one,” reported the NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport.

No word yet on Garoppolo’s status, but the team has the luxury of a few extra days since they played on Thursday night.
