The return of Tom Brady to the New England Patriots lineup is sure to bring some more fire and intensity to the team that dropped a bad one to Buffalo last week, but as far as the team playing with a chip on their shoulder over the so-called ‘Deflategate’ QB’s return, tight end Martellus Bennett says the chip’s been there since day one.
“I think every guy has played with a chip on their shoulder this entire season, so I don’t think that is going to change,” he told the Boston Herald’s Jeff Howe.
“That’s just who we are as human beings,” Bennett added. “You can’t play this game without a chip on your shoulder from whether it’s guys that got cut, guys that got traded, guys that feel like they got passed up by other teams. When you play this game, you’ve got to have a chip. Everybody’s chip is a little bit different. It’s like Lays, I guess. You might be a barbecue guy. I might be a sour cream and onion guy. As long as you have your chip, that’s what gets you through the game.”
