Patriots defense looking to pick up pace after ‘ups and downs’

The New England Patriots defense was supposed to be an elite unit that would help carry the team during Tom Brady’s absence; however, the ebbs and flows have them looking for answers on how to just get better.

“We’ve had our ups and downs in all aspects of the game, whether it be run situations or pass situations,” linebacker Dont’a Hightower said, via Boston Herald.

“We haven’t played as well as we’ve wanted to, so we’re trying to improve.”

“We have to be ready for a good test. These guys are proven winners, they’ve done it year in, year out,” cornerback Logan Ryan said.

“They have explosive receivers, for sure. We all know that. They have a good offense. We know that from years past.”

“You always want to be consistent, but you still have to handle it one week at a time,” Ryan said.

“At the end of the day, you’ve got to find different ways to win. We’re 4-1. One performance (against Buffalo) was horrible, for sure. But I think we moved on. . . . We’re responding well and taking the coaching. It’s early in the season, and we’re just trying to get better week to week. And if we can continue to win games, like we are, we’ll all be happy in the end.”
