Steelers defense ‘aware everyone has to step up and play better’ in Roethlisberger’s absence

The Pittsburgh Steelers know with quarterback Ben Roethlisberger being out due to a knee injury, they will now have to step up their game in order to have a chance against the Patriots this Sunday.

“We don’t feel like we have to do more because we have absolute confidence in Landry,” linebacker Vince Williams said, via Tribelive.com.

“He’s going to go out there and make the offense click.

“We don’t have to talk to Landry. He knows what the expectations are. When (linebacker) Ryan Shazier got hurt, Landry didn’t come up to me and say, ‘We’re missing Ryan, now you have to pick up the slack.’ It’s understood. We have to go out there and set a tone. We have to get a three-and-out to give Landry more possessions.”

“It’s not so much taking risk, but we are aware everyone has to step up and play better,” safety Mike Mitchell said.

“We have to rally around Landry. We believe in him, and he’s a confident guy.

“It’s not going to come down to Landry. It’s going to come down to the defense, all three phases playing at a high level.”
