The New England Patriots and Bill Belichick in particular always seem to make the right move at the right time. So when the team traded star linebacker Jamie Collins to the Browns, it wasn’t much of a surprise.
With Collins in a contract year and the emergence of rookie linebacker Elandon Roberts, Belichick saw an opening to get some draft currency while pushing Roberts to the front.
According to ESPN, Roberts has been trending as an integral part of the Patriots defense.
The sixth-round pick from the University of Houston led the Patriots with seven tackles as he worked his way into the rotation with Dont’a Hightower and Jamie Collins. At one point, he shot through the gap so fast in registering a tackle for a loss that it was hard to overlook his presence. Bill Belichick has touched on Roberts’ instincts in the past and when asked about him Sunday, he said, “He’s worked really hard and gets better every week.”
