No time to waste: Patriots sign nine to future contracts

Soon after the confetti was cleared off the field where the New England Patriots pulled off likely the greatest comeback in all of sports, head coach Bill Belichick proclaimed that “as great as today feels … we’re five weeks behind the other teams for the 2017 season.”

In light of that, the master of preparation is back to work with Super Bowl LI clearly in his rear view mirror.

On Tuesday, the Patriots signed nine players to futures contracts (8 are already signed to their practice squad). They are:

  • Offensive lineman Chris Barker
  • Linebacker Trevor Bates
  • Offensive lineman Jamil Douglas
  • Offensive lineman Chase Farris
  • Running back Tyler Gaffney
  • Defensive lineman Woodrow Hamilton
  • Defensive lineman Darius Kilgo
  • Receiver Devin Lucien
  • Tight end Rob Housler
