Cornerback Darrelle Revis may returning to New England, according to CBS Sports’ Jason La Canfora.
And the Patriots will likely get Revis at a bargain price following a very dismal 2016 season with the Jets. The Pats weren’t willing to sign him at the price he wanted after the Super Bowl season, but things certainly changed as far as Revis’ worth goes.
La Canfora cites a mystery ‘personnel person’ that the Patriots still believe the 31-year-old still has some left in the tank.
“We did our work on him,” the personnel man told La Canfora. “He can still play. He can cover. He doesn’t have that long speed anymore; he’s not going to cover a No. 1 receiver deep. But he can cover in tight spaces and he has great instincts. The film is not as bad as some would have you believe. He’s a perfect fit in that quarters scheme Belichick runs, and they have the kind of safeties who can help him out, too. We’re convinced he’s going back to New England. It just makes too much sense.”
Due to contract stipulations in his deal with the Jets, Revis will make $6 million in 2017 even if he doesn’t play. Stay tuned.
