Report: Don’ta Hightower took less than Steelers, Jets’ offers to re-sign with Pats

In the end, New England Patriots linebacker Dont’a Hightower decided staying right where he is was his best option, taking less money than what the Steelers and Jets offered to keep playing for Bill Belichick and company.

It was previously reported that the Jets had the highest offer on the table – $12 per year, and incentives.

According to CBS Sports’ Jason La Canfora, the Pittsburgh Steelers were willing to go to $9 million per year, and played a little hard ball with Hightower during his visit there, essentially giving him an ultimatum to sign while he’s in town or the deal’s off.

Hightower returned to New England and took the 8.7 million per season the Pats offered him.
