The Pittsburgh Steelers didn’t land prized free agent linebacker Dont’a Hightower, but they’re fully content with Vince Williams as their replacement for the departed Lawrence Timmons.
Williams, 27, is the next man up on the inside after Timmons signed a two-year deal with Miami.
“We made an attempt (to sign Hightower). It didn’t work. We’re fine. We move on,” Colbert said Sunday, per triblive.com. “We were very confident in Vince, which is why we signed him to an extension last year.”
“If it got to the point and Lawrence left us, and we didn’t sign anybody from the outside, Vince certainly was capable of stepping up and being the next guy,” Colbert said.
Williams signed a three-year, $5.5 million deal with the team in August as insurance for Timmons would-be departure.
