Reggie McKenzie on Raiders’ 2014 draft experience: ‘I was scared’

Oakland Raiders general maneger Reggie McKenzie is looking back to what could’ve been a disaster had things not gone as planned in the 2014 NFL Draft.

Especially concerning star defensive end Khalil Mack (and another key guy, so to speak.)

“I was scared. They were right there in Buffalo,” McKenzie said, per The Mercury News. “They knew everything about him. I thought they were taking him and then I was kind of kicking myself there. When they took Sammy Watkins, that made my day.”

Mack was selected by the Raiders on the very next pick, much to their excitement.

Up next was quarterback Derek Carr, who McKenzie was nervous the Vikings were ready to pounce on him with the last pick int he first round.

“They took Teddy Bridgewater,” McKenzie said with a smile.
