According to the Boston Herald, a few unnamed teams are looking at acquiring New England Patriot running back Dion Lewis via a trade.
The in-demand back has caught a few teams’ attention as they’re well aware of the Pats’ depth at the position; although the team hasn’t hinted at letting go of any of their backs.
If they’re going to do anything, it’ll have to happen before the October 31st trade deadline.
My guess is that with any team’s RB corps, injuries happen more than often, and the Patriots will be wise to keep as many around as possible.
Stephen Hewitt, Jeff Howe: ‘ Mike Gillislee was slowed twice over the offseason with hamstring injuries, and Rex Burkhead missed time in the preseason with an undisclosed ailment. James White has been healthy to this point, so if all three stay on the field, it’s plausible the Patriots could deem Lewis to be expendable if the compensation is right.
Plus, D.J. Foster is on the practice squad, and the Patriots are paying him $15,000 per week, which is more than twice the minimum for practice squad players. ‘
