On Sunday, New England Patriots defensive coordinator Matt Patricia watched as Texans quarterback Deshaun Watson (301 yards and 41 yards rushing) pretty much had his way with the defense whenever he stepped outside of the pocket.
While much had to do with the talented Watson having a hell of a game, the very mobile Panthers QB Cam Newton is up next, and the Patriots certainly need to step up their game in at least this particular area.
“We obviously had some struggles there and we need to do a better job,” Patricia said, per the Patriots official website.
“The unfortunate part about it for us is Cam Newton is next up. This guy is just so dangerous — his ability to get out of the pocket, his ability to escape tackles. He’s big, he’s strong, he’s athletic, he’s deceptively fast. [He’s] just very experienced, calm. [He’s] just a very savvy player. [It will] be a huge challenge for us. This guy is an outstanding player.”
